The accuracy of today's digital instrumentation is a magnitude higher than the accuracy of the analog instrumentation it replaces.  When properly used, this new technology can result in substantial savings in the cost to generate power.  Cutting waste as a result of better heat rate control to more precise fuel measurement resulting in less lost and unaccountable for gas are just two examples where this technology can cut cost and reduce waste.  This presentation will address this new technology, and the importance of having a work force properly trained in its use in order to take advantage of its benefits.

Flir Systems: Presentation to provide an update on the latest infrared technology including high resolution infrared cameras, SF6 detection technology, and remote substation monitoring.  Presentation will also discuss the basics of infrared theory including the relationship between pixel count and measurement spot size.

8:30 AM

Tucson Electric Power: Creating An Intranet Training Resource Presentation will show participants how to create and use the free blogging program "Wordpress" to create a site Training Resource Information Center. This intranet site provides a menu driven access to training videos and Power Point Presentations for specific plant topics including Safety classes, OSHA Compliance, Human Resources training, Operations procedures, specific equipment operation, maintenance procedures etc. Participants will be shown how to set up the program, create class videos and transform them into flash video files for use on the site. They will be shown how to add videos and Power Point presentations to the site and create the menu options to access them. This program allows trainers to video tape classes and make them available to all employees saving time and money involved in trying to provide training to large groups spread over various work schedules. (Such as shift workers) Participants will be able to see our actual program via FOB connection to our plant. Selected participants can interact with the program to demonstrate its ease of use.
